Came here with my daughter and wife for our wedding anniversary in early August. I made a reservation and want to say I made the reservation about a week to two weeks in advance. I don't recall exactly. We checked in with the hostess and were notified we would receive a text when our table was ready. I was able to have enough time to go to the outside bar and order a Whiskey and Coke. $18 for a Whiskey and Coke. Yowzers! I'd say about 15 minutes passed, then we received the text and headed to the hostess inside. We were seated at a table outside around the restaurant, next to a table that was under a lit up artificial cherry blossom tree? Beautiful scenery and great views. Service was attentive. Our server was fantastic. We ordered the salt n pepper calamari to start. Our server offered us complimentary toast with two glasses of champagne. For entrees we ordered the spicy tuna roll, crispy salmon roll(the best), lobster roll, salmon citrus roll. And the chilean sea bass and garlic noodles with steak. Everything was really good. For desert we had the chocolate brownie and the anmitsu jelly with watermelon sorbet. Both deserts were delicious. The anmitsu jelly is a very light desert.
5 star service, atmosphere and overall culinary experience. Ask for Casey Keegan when you arrive; he has over 25 years hospitality experience and will get you sorted properly. The food has greatly improved here over the last few years. It's arguably the best restaurant view in all of LA! I'll be back next week!
Yamashiro offers a spacious dining experience with amazing views of LA! We visited for Saturday brunch, and it was pleasantly quiet. Although the garden area was closed for dining, we were seated outside and enjoyed the scenic views. You can also go down a bit and enjoy a nice overlook- there's some seats and also a separate bar at the bottom. The food is decent and reasonably priced. We tried the Yamashiro roll, Salmon Latkes, and Hojicha toast, and found everything enjoyable. However, it's the ambiance and historic charm of Yamashiro that truly sets it apart. While the dishes are good, you might find more unique options at other restaurants.
We celebrated our 28th Wedding Anniversary at YAMASHIRO HOLLYWOOD!! The Japanese surname translates to: Mountain (Ama) Castle (Shiro). Our dining experience was such a joy and an adventure! Driving up to this iconic landmark and walking around the massive property was thrilling! I honestly felt like Dora the Explorer as I walked around the gardens; Headed down the steps to see the Buddha, climbed back up and around to see the Hollywood sign, stepped inside the restaurant to "use the bathroom" and saw the koi pond and other dining areas. Nostalgia settled in as we were seated al fresco at a high top with a panoramic view of the City of Los Angeles. Brought back fond memories of when we lived in Japan. It was a perfect summer night. Service was outstanding from the moment we checked in. Both our server and busser were super friendly and provided great recommendations. Loved the chill vibe and how comfortable we felt in this setting. We ordered the following items: -Kobayashi Cocktail: girly girl drink & it hit the spot! -Softshell Crab Salad: very good, especially if you like Thai flavors -Uni Carbonara Udon: a bit flavorless and my least favorite (I always order carbonara anytime it's on the menu) -Steak Garlic Noodles: Yes! This was a hit! -Miso Eggplant: Excellent! Loved the smokey flavors. -Green Dragon Roll: The shiso leaf...chef's kiss! Super fresh, crunchy and healthy! -Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice: Crispy rice...need I say more? -Sticky Toffee Cake: Not comparable to Gordon Ramsey's, but certainly a nice way to end a fabulous dinner with my hubby. Still recommend! Now, there were a few yellowjackets that were buzzing around our plates for the first few minutes of dining. Thank goodness they did not stick around!! Whew!! I panic when it comes to insects. ;-) Overall, it was a splendid evening. We even walked down to the Flowering Tree cafe on the premises and enjoyed some coffee there (separate tab). All I kept saying is how much I would like to return with other family members and friends. It was such a delight!! Kanpai!!
So, having read a lot of the reviews on this historic restaurant, I was a bit nervous for my first time visit. Now that I've been, I can honestly say this is DEFINITLEY a restaurant everyone should experience at least once! Not only are the location and ambiance something to be believed, but the food and service are pretty good too. While I can't speak to everything on the menu, I would suggest sticking with strictly Japanese items like sushi/sashimi. The menu seems to be all over the place in terms of cuisine which is a bit odd. That being said, arrive about 30 minutes early to your reservation so you have time to walk around and check everything out as it's a BIG property and there's fun stuff to experience like the gardens and the pool as well as the AMAZING view!
Had an absolutely wonderful time here! The food was tasty, the ambience was beautiful and our sever Kenny is the best server I've had at a restaurant in a long time. He truly made our experience perfect and one I'll never forget!
One of the best dining experiences I've had in all of LA. Yamashiro Hollywood, perched high above the city in the Hollywood Hills, is renowned for its stunning panoramic views of Los Angeles. The setting is unmatched, offering a serene, scenic escape with a Japanese-inspired ambiance, complete with lush gardens and koi ponds. The menu offers a fusion of Asian cuisine, blending traditional Japanese dishes with modern twists. The sushi is fresh and expertly crafted, with standout options like the spicy tuna roll and the chef's special sashimi platter. The robata grill items are also popular, providing a smoky, flavorful experience. Service is attentive and professional, enhancing the overall dining experience. While the prices are on the higher end, they reflect the quality of the food and the unique dining atmosphere. Overall, Yamashiro is a great choice for a special night out, combining excellent food with an unforgettable setting. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to enjoy a beautiful evening, Yamashiro offers a memorable experience.
